Our Day Resource in Sheerness is desperately looking for somewhere to park their minibus, or risk losing it. The bus is used to transport people with a learning disability to activities around Swale. Centre Manager, Lauren Kay, explained, ‘having the bus to get out and about means that everyone could travel together safely and easily, including wheelchair users. Whilst we can’t use it at the moment, once restrictions lift we were planning trips to the beach, and even further afield.’
However, we will soon lose its parking space and now face the prospect of having nowhere to park the bus. As the minibus has a long wheel base, it is too big for conventional parking bays. So we urgently need to find a permanent secure, off road space, close to their Day Resource in Sheerness.
Lauren said she had spoken to the Council, but they weren’t able to offer any help, and had even driven around Sheerness looking for possible spaces at local businesses. However, with so many people working from home at the moment, it wasn’t easy to find anyone to speak to.
Lauren commented, ‘Having been cooped up for so long, members are really excited to start planning some trips when we can finally go out again. I would hate to disappoint them. Our only hope is a local organisation that can generously offer us a parking space for the minibus.’
Anyone who thinks they might be able to help, can contact Lauren on 01843 808964 (extension: 550) or email her at lauren.kay@eastkentmencap.co.uk.
