Paul: “I am so happy to be back in Herne Bay with a nice garden”
Arkley tenant, Paul tells us about his first couple of months in our new independent living annexe.
“I have been living on Arkley Road since March. My cousin found the vacancy for me online and I spoke to my Care Manager about the move.
I have lived in Herne Bay before so I know a lot of people here. I definitely feel more independent living here and I am a lot closer to my family – it felt like the right time to move.
I found it a bit strange at first, but the housing staff were friendly and that helped me settle in. I’m really happy with the support I am getting now, with things like shopping, housework, cooking and healthy eating plans.
I’ve got everything I need so far and feel like I’ve finally moved in. I think one of the best things about this place is the garden – It’s spacious and I have started to grow some things in it for the summer. It’s a nice, quiet area and don’t hear any noise at night.
My neighbours live in East Kent Mencap’s bungalow next door – they are all very friendly and I have already had them round for dinner!”
The Arkley Annexe was funded by The Garfield Weston Foundation, Bailey Thomas Charitable Fund, ACT Foundation & KHoCA
