During Learning Disability Week from 17th to 23rd June, we celebrated the amazing achievements of the people who use our services and highlighted the barriers they face every day.
East Kent Mencap CEO, Jason Gerlack, said, “We want people with a learning disability to be seen, heard and valued by their communities.”
Our Hubs across East Kent marked Learning Disability Week with a range of activities and celebrations.
Members from the Swale Hub attended Festability at Quex Park on 22nd June, an accessible music festival for people with a learning disability. It was an incredible experience, they listened to live music, danced on stage and enjoyed the inclusive atmosphere. This was made possible thanks to the generosity of Queensborough Fishery Trust.
The Swale Hub also took part in a community litter pick during Learning Disability Week and raised awareness for people with a learning disability.
The Ramsgate Hub visited the Boating Pool in Ramsgate and enjoyed a picnic, outdoor games and spending time with friends.
There was a delicious afternoon tea at our Margate Hub, with a range of delicious cakes to celebrate Learning Disability Week, followed by games and karaoke to end the day.
