We are delighted to share the story of how a group of friends has come together to support East Kent Mencap’s Christmas fundraising Star Appeal.
Rogan, Kevin, and Ted, members of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, have raised a fantastic £120 for our appeal.
This generous donation was collected throughout the year in a unique way. Every time the group met for dinner, instead of leaving a tip at the restaurant, they set the money aside in a pot earmarked for charity. At the end of each year, they choose a cause close to their hearts to support.
This year, they selected East Kent Mencap in memory of their friend and fellow group member, John Lawrence. John, who sadly passed away, worked for East Kent Mencap for many years. Rogan, Kevin, and Ted had been close friends with John for over 35 years, and their donation is a great tribute to him.

Rogan said, “This donation is in memory of John, who worked for East Kent Mencap. We would like to support people with a learning disability this Christmas.”
Kevin added, “As an individual, you can’t always do a lot for charity, but as a group, we can do a lot more.”
We would like to thank Rogan, Kevin, and Ted for their thoughtfulness, generosity, and for choosing to honor John’s memory in such a meaningful way. Your support will help us to provide festive events and activities for the people who use our services over the festive period.
Thank you for being stars and making a difference this Christmas!
