‘My Life’ is an inspirational drama production, based on quotes from people with a learning disability and performed by individuals who attend East Kent Mencap Thanet Hub.
Support Worker, Tris, said: “The project aimed to break down barriers in how people think about individuals with a learning disability. I felt it was important to share how people with a learning disability want the same things in life as everyone else.”
The group discussed their feelings and experiences of living with a learning disability, this then formed the poem for the video, which they named ‘My Life’. With the poem completed the group bought it to life by filming the video and taking photographs to capture their moods and favourite scenes.
Tris shared: “I hope the video makes people stop and think. I am very proud of the group’s work.”
The voice-over narrator, David, who attends East Kent Mencap, said: “It was great to do the voice-over; I enjoyed every minute. It made me feel emotional thinking about how people with a learning disability express themselves.”
