East Kent Mencap celebrated a significant milestone on Thursday 28th March 2024, as it marked 75 years of supporting people with a learning disability. The event took place at Foresters Hall in Ramsgate, where over 50 guests gathered to celebrate the organisation’s achievements.
The Mayor of Ramsgate, Pat Moore, planted a cherry tree in the Ramsgate Hub garden, generously funded by Ramsgate Town Council, and unveiled a commemorative plaque.
The Mayor acknowledged the valuable contributions of East Kent Mencap to its local community, sharing, “I am honoured to unveil this plaque and plant this tree today to celebrate 75 years of East Kent Mencap and all the excellent work they do supporting people with a learning disability..”
A highlight of the celebration was the cutting of the 75th anniversary cake by The Mayor and East Kent Mencap CEO, Jason Gerlack.
Among the guests was Stephen Fenning, a representative from Colyer Fergusson Charitable Trust, whose incredible donation of £150,000 has ensured that essential renovations were carried out at East Kent Mencap’s listed building Foresters Hall, including restoring the roof and the installation of new accessible toilets.
The GOLD (Getting On With Learning Difficulties) group demonstrated their thanks to East Kent Mencap by volunteering their time, warmly welcoming guests and serving refreshments, generously donated by Tesco Manston, throughout the celebration.
Jason Gerlack, CEO of East Kent Mencap, expressed gratitude, sharing, “We are very grateful for the kindness and support shown to East Kent Mencap. Thank you for joining us as we celebrate this significant milestone in our history.
