We are delighted to announce that The ScrapStore has been awarded £16,100 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The ScrapStore encourages the community to reduce waste by promoting reuse and recycling. Craft items are donated and saved from landfill, then sold at affordable prices, allowing people to get creative while supporting sustainability. Run by a dedicated team, including volunteers with and without a learning disability, all proceeds go towards supporting East Kent Mencap and their work to support people with a learning disability.
Thanks to this generous support, The ScrapStore will now be open an additional two days every week, every Friday and soon on Saturdays too. Starting from Friday 4th October you can visit The ScrapStore located at Foresters Hall, Meeting Street, Ramsgate, CT11 9RT, every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10am to 2pm. Saturday opening dates will be announced soon.
The UK Shared Prosperity Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK by investing in communities and places, supporting local businesses, and people and skills.
Fiona Wonford, GOLD Project Manager, said, “Thank you Thanet District Council and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This incredible funding will help us to promote sustainability and provide more valuable volunteering opportunities for people with and without a learning disability in our community.”
Elizabeth Cake, The ScrapStore Project Officer, said, “The treasure trove that is The ScrapStore has already achieved so much and I’m excited to see it grow with the help of the new funding. This wonderful asset to the community brings together people with and without a learning disability who have a shared interest in crafting, provides affordable arts and crafts supplies, and saves tonnes of materials from landfill each year.”
